Style
Walking into the Mark immediately introduces you to a glamorous lobby – styled by French designer Jacques Grange. It has a distinctly dramatic black and white striped marble floor, bold art, metallic accents, and plush, custom furnishings. Overall, The Mark has a luxurious, modern, and sexy feel. This is why the fashion elite are drawn to this place, especially for the annual Met Gala.
Rooms
The 152 rooms and suites at The Mark are also designed by Jacques Grange, but in a more subdued and residential style. The understated guestrooms provide contrast to the dramatic hotel lobby with their ebony, sycamore and nickel furnishings. All guestrooms will feature Quagliotti linens, marble baths, and Crestron panels to control lighting, temperature, entertainment, and shades.
The Madison King room, which spans 450 square feet. The bathroom is particularly luxurious with its double wash basins, deep soaking tub, separate glass shower, heated towel racks, and La Bottega dell’Albergo bath products. Another great feature was the sleek, black-granite bar with SubZero drawer: one for ice, the second for beverage, and third for snacks.
Facilities
The Mark Experience includes the in-house Frédéric Fekkai Hair Salon, a 1,400-square-foot fitness center, special access to personal shoppers and expert advice from Bergdorf Goodman, The Mark Bikes, The Mark Pedicabs, and Assouline Coffee Table Bookshop, John Lobb-certified shoe polishers. Le Shop features a curated collection of bespoke products.
The flashy Mark Bikes, adorned with a striped chain case and a monogrammed bell. You can use these bikes to ride around Central Park with a “lunch-to-go” by celebrated cef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. This is the ultimate picnic, complete with everything you’d need: a blanket, cutlery, condiments, and and illustrated bike map by the hotel’s own concierge.
Food & Drink
The Mark Restaurant, by award-winning chef Jean=Georges Vongerichten, serves French-American cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Not to mention weekend brunch and 24-hour room service. We ordered the tuna tartare, a Jean-George specialty, the slightly spicy rigatoni and meatballs and the veal Milanese for dinner.
Chic and lively The Mark Bar, connected to the restaurant, offers hand-crafted classic and signature cocktails. Breakfast as much more relaxed compared to the evening scene. My partner went for the American breakfast, while I went for the Acai breakfast bowl. Both were decadent. as we expected, for a top-notch restaurant at a top-notch hotel.
Service
The front desk was the first service experience at the Mark. The impression is: professional, polite, a little too “buttoned up” as well. Fortunately, the housekeeping and restaurant crew were a bit more relaxed and offered plenty of opportunities for small talk.
Location
The Mark sits in the heart of posh Upper East Side, off Madison Avenue and less than a block from Central Park. High-end shops like Christian Louboutin, Missoni, and Vera Wang are a hop away, and getting to the met is a simple 5-minute walk.
Address: 25 East 77th Street.
