American Express and Uber have been long-time partners since as early as 2014, unveiling perks such as Additional Membership Rewards Points for Uber Ride purchases on a multitude of cards including the Platinum Card® from American Express, the Business Platinum® Card from American Express OPEN, the Business Gold Rewards Card from American Express OPEN, etc. Even going as far as offering a $200 annual Uber credit perk for personal Platinum cardholders.
Well, with Uber launching their Uber Credit Card with Barclaycard a few months ago, surely we needed validity towards the status between American Express and Uber’s partnership. Now it appears that the 2x bonus structure that you earned through Uber Rides will no longer be available as of February 1, 2018. As of now, there doesn’t appear to be any changes towards the $200 annual Uber credits perk you receive if you’re a Platinum cardholder.

Conclusion:
Losing the 2x Membership Rewards that you earn through Uber rides surely isn’t too big of a deal considering that the Chase Sapphire ReserveSM Card earns 3x on all travel including Uber and even the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card stands as a viable choice for your Uber ride purchase with 2x the points on all travel including Uber.
These cards can offer a better alternative for your Uber ride purchase, especially when February 1 rolls around. Now, my fingers are crossed that AMEX and Uber maintains the $200 annual credit offered on the personal Platinum Card considering that it was the biggest benefit introduced with the enhanced benefit. Losing the perk would bring further questioning as to whether the Platinum Card would be worth it or not.
