I’ve been urging for a whole year now that the Chase Freedom needed a twist to what I consider boring and almost-expected categories that we’ve been getting for almost every quarter now. Select cardholders have been chosen to partake in a survey via Chase’s Insight Community with a chance to introduce possible upcoming Chase Freedom categorical perks. The survey considered aspects of making a new 5% category that would reward you for using your Freedom Card on either recurring payments (phone bill, Netflix, etc.) or digital wallet payments (Android Pay, Samsung Pay, etc).
Editor’s Note: The new benefit of recurring payment or mobile wallet cash back reward will be an addition apart from the current rotating 5% category.

Freedom – CashBack on Recurring Payments & Mobile Wallet:
Freedom is also considering making a new 5% category that would reward you for using your Freedom card for recurring payments, like your mobile phone bill, electricity, streaming subscriptions, and more. This category would also be in addition to the existing 5% categories.
Freedom is also considering making a new 5% category that would reward you for using your Freedom card in digital wallets, such as Android Pay, Samsung Pay, Chase Pay, etc. This category would also be in addition to the existing 5% categories.
- Recurring Payments – Rent, mobile phone bill, electricity, streaming subscriptions, and more
- Mobile Wallet – Android Pay, Samsung Pay, Chase Pay, etc.
Chase Freedom is also considering rewarding you for using your Freedom Card for digital payments (making payments online or through a mobile app for sites/services like Lyft, Uber, Starbucks, etc.) The likelihood of this becoming a new category may have lesser odds comparative to the mentioned Recurring Payments/Mobile Wallet categorical perks.

Conclusion:
The Chase Freedom Card currently offers a $150 Bonus when you make a spend of $500 in 90 days. You should expect the new categories to still have the standard cap of $1,500 per quarter. The new benefit of recurring payment or mobile wallet cash back reward will be a consistent 5x benefit addition apart from the current rotating 5% category. If the 5% mobile wallet category is finalized, it’s necessary to keep in mind that the U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve earns 3x on mobile wallet purchases with no point cap, however, the card stands at a costly $400 annual fee.
