Author’s Verdict
The Chase IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Card allows an automatic Platinum Elite status from the day the account is opened, which in my opinion provides a traveler the utmost respect in traveling aspects. With the Platinum Elite Status comes complimentary room upgrades, guaranteed room availability and even 50% bonus earnings on base points. In addition the point earnings are quite feasible with the $1,000 purchases within the first 3 months and no annual fee the first year. IHG has an expansive selection of properties which includes the Intercontinental, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, Even Hotels, Holiday Inn, Staybridge Suites, and Candlewood Suites. The items not included or offered within the Chase IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Card is the absence of free breakfast benefits that are offered within other top tier status in other programs. But the absence of free breakfast can be overlooked when considering the other programs that offer top tier status with complimentary breakfast also has quite the large spending thresholds to earn.
Also to consider this rewards credit card advertise no blackout dates for reward nights redeemed but sadly in the fine print it basically states that IHG properties can limit the number of rooms available for award nights, which isn’t much different from airlines that also limits the availability of award seats at the saver level, but the room limitations aren’t as restrictive as the airline seats. Overall the credit card has a limitless point earning potential for stays at IHG properties worldwide and the benefits and bonuses are plentiful for travelers. It doesn’t hurt to try out the card if you are looking for great stays in other parts of the world or even in the U.S. Remember the first year the annual fee is waived and if you’re in love with the card the annual fee is only $49.
