Some impending and rather unexpected changes are expected to go into effect on the Chase Sapphire Reserve, as of yesterday, and this may change your prospects on the card. Essentially, Chase is changing your Chase Sapphire Reserve’s airlines, moreover, $300 travel credit from being based on every calendar year to cardmember year. Those who already have the card or who applied through May 20 will still be able to reap two travel credits in their first year, however, those who apply now and thereafter will have card-member based terminology applicable towards their first year.

Chase Sapphire Reserve Travel Credit Changes In-Depth
It should go without saying that most premium credit cards including American Express’ Platinum, Premier Rewards Gold Card runs their annual credits based on calendar year, NOT cardmember year. When the annual credits are based on calendar year, this is a huge plus for those chasing sign-up bonuses since we get credit twice WITHIN the first year.
Again, I reiterate that applications submitted today and forward will have their travel credit based on cardmember year for the first year. The Chase Sapphire Reserve’s annual credit ends with the date that the December billing statement is generated and restarts January 1.
Editor’s Note: There is still a possibility that you can get your travel credit twice if you squeeze the $300 in the beginning of your second cardmember year and cancelling the card within 30-days that the fee has hit, however, it’s definitely a strenuous process that I only recommend to hardened credit-card holders.
Conclusion:
Definitely terrible news, especially for those looking forward to applying for the Chase Sapphire Reserve here-on forward. I mean the 50,000 UR Point bonus is still attractive, however, the new changes makes the sign-up significantly more discouraging. Fingers crossed that the 100K UR Sign-up would make it’s way back into our cross-hairs again. Note that those who already have the card or who applied through May 20 will still be able to reap two travel credits in their first year.
