Redeeming KrisFlyer Miles
Normally, KrisFlyer miles will expire at the end of the months, 36 months after they show up in your account whether or not you’re earning or burning through them. Additionally, the most frequent flyer programs have the expiration date extended as long as you’re still active.
Keep in mind that your KrisFlyer miles will not expire if you’re a PPS Club Member. Furthermore, you will not have to pay $12, or 1,200 miles to extend a block of 10,000 expiring miles for 6 months. KrisFlyer Elite Silver and Elite Gold members will be able to pay the same amount to further extend the block of 10,000 miles for about 12 months.
Use your KrisFlyer iles for award tickets and upgrades for Singapore Airlines and their partner airlines.
Singapore Airlines
Saver awards will need less KrisFlyer miles, however, they are well known so availability is limited. Be sure that you plan ahead of time or have flexible travel dates and times.
Advantage awards need more miles, but since you need to get more seat options and 2 complimentary stopovers per roundtrip ticket.
Miles & Cash awards will enable you to book an award ticket when you don’t have enough KrisFlyer miles. It will start from 980 miles.
Partner Airlines
Reserve award tickets and upgrades with airline partners. Check out the:
Scoot
Pay for airfare, taxes, and selected ancilliaries for Scoot itineraries with a mix of KrisFlyer miles and cash. The starting is from as little as 1,050 miles.
Flight Upgrades
Use your KrisFlyer miles to upgrade to Premium Economy, Business or First Class or Singapore Airlines Suites.
- Singapore Airlines: Saver or Advantage upgrade awards
- SilkAir: Saver upgrades awards
Redemption Nominees
Reserve award tickets and flight upgrades for your redemption nominees. Pick no more than 5 people for your flight. After you’ve added people, they’re locked in for 6 months. Deleting one of the nominees will cost your miles or money, so pick your people carefully.
There are more ways for you to use your KrisFlyer miles. However, they don’t usually come with a good value. Some other options will include hotel stays and car rentals booked with KrisFlyer Vrooms shopping with KrisShop. You can even convert your miles to Virgin Australia Velocity, instant purchase with KrisPay (Singapore only) and donating your miles.
KrisFlyer Tips & Tricks
KrisFlyer offers a special earning bonus for a regular basis. Check the Promotions Page to find deals like double miles on hotel stays and bonus miles on car rentals.
To take advantage of your award flights, you’ll have to remember the routing rules such as:
- Most partner flights can be combined. Only non-alliance partners must be ticketed separately.
- One-way awards are allowed on all carriers, even though some award charts are priced as roundtrip.
- One free stopover and one free open jaw is allowed on a roundtrip Saver award.
- One free stopover is allowed on a one-way Advantage award.
- Add additional stopovers to any award booking for $100, for up to 3 stopovers, to any Singapore Airlines/SilkAir or Singapore Airlines/Star Alliance partner award.
- Stopovers are not allowed within Europe or for travel within/between the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
- You cannot backtrack on awards. Your routing must be the most direct route, even if you are adding stopovers.
- There’s a 6-segment maximum, but you can book 2 separate one-way itineraries if you want more permitted segments.
There aren’t any fuel surcharges on flights that are worked by Singapore Airlines and SilkAir. But, KrisFlyer will not fuel surcharges on most partner award tickets. Sometimes, they can be labeled as “carrier-imposed surcharges.”
Expections will be: Air Canada (in North America), Air New Zealand, Avianca, Alaska Airlines, Copa Airlines, United Airlines (in the Americas), and Virgin Australia. Keep in mind that plenty of Polish flight fuel surcharges are pretty low.
