Eligible cards for contact-less payment capabilities are the Quicksilver, Venture, and VentureOne. If you have any of those eligible cards, you will essentially have the ability to tap the card to pay without the need to swipe or insert into a reader. You shouldn’t expect this to affect any of your current credit cards, just know that all future cards being sent out as of this month on, will have contact-less enabled. This is sort of like Capital One’s version of mobile wallet, or you can say that mobile wallet is contact-less and allows you to tap it without swiping/insert. You will still need the physical eligible cards at hand.
Eligible Cards:
Alternative Credit Card Bonuses:
- Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card
- Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express
- Chase Freedom UnlimitedSM
NFC vs. Contactless:
I wanted to firstly, get out of the way the comparisons between NFC and Contactless payments. You can already tell that they run on common grounds in a sense, NFC Payments is your Apple/Android Pay and contactless cards is your PayWave/PayPass. Distinctions between these two are mapped out more extensively as coding MSD and EMV. MSD basically constructs magnetic stripe swipe data and sends it over to a NFC interface while EMV prioritizes EMV transactions over NFC instead of the contact chip. Therefore, the remaining problem is that many US merchants only support MSD contactless even if they support contact EMV. In a sense, I must flashback to a year ago when the Chase Freedom offered contactless and had to switch back due to not many consumers utilizing the ability.
Capital One Spotify Promotion Summary:
- Quicksilver, Venture, and VentureOne offers you the ability to tap the card to pay without the need to swipe or insert into a reader.
- US Payment terminals are dominantly NFC-enabled.
Conclusion:
Contactless isn’t really a new thing, however more security within construct is definitely more convenient for most of us that find the Chip&Pin painfully slow. You should expect Capital One’s the Quicksilver, Venture, and VentureOne to now have contactless. Tap. Pay. Go. Check out faster and more securely with your contactless chip card. Note that some terminals do not accept this payment, in which case, you will still have the option to use the primitive (jokes) swiping or inserting chip method as you please.
