I’m sure by now that we’ve touched countless co-branded credit cards quirks and benefits within all of the rope-arounds and what-not, however, I’m 99.99% positive that we’ve never actually established the back-ends of such. We never took into account just how co-branded credit partners push their products, or how they are credited/paided by the credit card issuer. How exclusive or what it takes to get your own co-branded card out there.
Well, with First Bankcard® Affinity Solutions® program, you eliminate the “what if.” They make it significantly easier for you, as a business, to become a co-branded partner and establishing a new source of income for your organization. Whether you’re a non-profit charitable organization or a business looking to incentivize your customers, be sure to read on if you’re interested.

On a practical level, there’s four types of deals that co-branded partners can negotiate on with a good chance that a number of those deals will be combined as one wholesome deal.
- Approvals & activation – card partners will receive a fixed fee for every approved/or activated applicant. number of applications to fixed fee often works as a ratio of 1-100 applications receiving a fixed payment of $10 per approval, or 100+ receives $11+ per approval. It can either go by leads the partner generates or on all approvals and activations OR the card issuer pays out on an application whether it’s been approved or not, so it’s necessary to negotiate just exactly how fees will be accounted for.
- Transaction volume – Typically, the credit card issuer will pay out a fee based on how many transactions a cardholder makes within a specific period of time, whether it be every statement cycle or calendar year. Note that you can track transaction volume your program’s progress within this program.
- Interchange fees revenue share – Card issuers usually make 1.5%-ish on all credit card transactions (due to interchange fees) which will often be shared with the co-branded partner.
- Fees revenue share – Card issuers will also make money from fees attached, whether it be late, cash advance or interest charges, the card issuer usually shares a portion of the earning with the credit card partner.
This is especially beneficial for college student organizations or Alumni groups, professional organizations or special interest groups. Going further into the platform, you’ll be able to pick a payment network that offers different specified benefits and protections and you’ll typically earn approx. 0.15% of the total transaction. With the Affinity program, I’ve seen a majority of VISA cards in the portfolio, so I don’t think there’s much of the choosing a network as there’s a good possibility you’ll run under the VISA network.
