Introductory APR Promotion
The card offers 0% intro APR for 18 months on purchases and qualifying balance transfers, and once the introductory period ends the usual variable APR will be applied and it will depend on creditworthiness and prevailing rates.
Cell Phone Protection
When you use your Wells Fargo Platinum card to pay your monthly cell phone bill, you can get up to $600 of protection on your cell phone against covered damage or theft. The coverage is subject to a $25 deductible plus you have a limit of two claim per year.
Keep in mind that the benefit does not cover lost cell phones – your phones must be stolen, with an accompanying police report or damaged while remaining in the owner’s possession.
Overdraft Protection
With Wells Fargo’s overdraft protection service, it will allow you to link your credit card account with your corresponding Wells Fargo checking account. So if you ever find yourself making a transaction in your checking account that resulted in an overdraft, Wells Fargo will cover the difference by drawing a cash advance on your Platinum card’s available credit line.
Just know that if you are going to use this service, you are subjected to a $12.50 fee for any transfers that is less than $50 and a $20 fee for transfers that are greater than $50. Also note that advances will accrue interest at the regular cash advance rate, depending on your creditworthiness and prevailing rates.
Visa Backed Benefits
In addition to the cell phone protection benefit, the Wells Fargo Platinum Visa also has a number of useful perks from Visa. These includes:
- Complimentary loss and damage on rental cars charged in full to your card
- Travel emergency assistance and roadside assistance
- Worldwide travel accident insurance (up to $150,000 benefit)
Important Fees To Note
This card has no annual fees, but they do have foreign transaction and balance transfer fees. If you decide to use this card abroad, foreign transactions cost 3% of the total transaction amount.
See the terms and conditions.
Advantages
This card has no annual fee. This is best for those cardholders who wishes to take advantage of the introductory APR and minimize their ongoing card usage costs.
This card has an APR promotion that includes interest- free purchases and balance transfers for 18 months which is better than many competing cards.
With this cell phone protection plan, it’s a great way to be prepared and get protected against the unknown and reduce cell phone replacement costs without paying anything upfront.
This card’s overdraft protection feature is useful if you have a Wells Fargo checking account that you occasionally overdraft.
This card doesn’t charge a penalty APR which is good for cardholders who sometimes miss payments.
Disadvantages
The Wells Fargo Platinum Visa doesn’t offer any rewards or cashback compared to other competitors who offer modest generous travel rewards or cashback rewards.
This card also doesn’t have a sign-bonus that you can take advantage of, which is disappointing for cardholders who are looking for amazing deals.
Although this card has no annual fee, this card’s regular purchase APR can be significantly higher than many competing cards with long 0% APR introductory periods.
So if you’re planning to use this cards heavily after the promotional period ends, your card ownership cost will depend to a great degree on the rate you’re able to secure.
If you do plan to use this card abroad, the 3% foreign transaction fee is going to be a costly addition for you. Consider looking into an annual-fee-free travel rewards card that doesn’t charge foreign transaction fees.
Conclusion
The Wells Fargo Platinum Visa® Card includes signature features like Rapid Alerts which will send you fast text and email alerts for monitoring spending, tracking purchases, and receiving notifications of irregular or suspicious activity. Also feel safe knowing you have access to a zero liability program, overdraft protection, and chip technology.
This card would be great for those seeking to take advantage of low introductory APR and transfer higher rate balances. If you’re interested, sign up today! Otherwise, find out which card is right for you by checking out our complete list of Credit Card Promotions today!
